Providing IT cybersecurity for car manufacturers, the Lorient start-up Iot.BZH has just pocketed a new national prize with, in the balance, an aid of €460,000.
Created in 2015 by Fulup ar Foll, the startup Iot.BZH has been providing high-tech and cyber security to car manufacturers since September 2015. Housed on the premises of the plaza of the former Halles Saint Louis in Lorient, the start-up has already won the 2020 ACF AutoTech grand prix. A boost of € 200,000, more than welcome during full lockdown and a recognition for this company that already works internationally with the Japanese automotive industry (Nissan, Suzuki, Toyota, Ford...).
What is IoT?
The Internet of Things (IoT) represents the exchange of information and data from real-world objects connected via the Internet. The Internet of Things is considered the third phase of major evolution of the Internet "Web 3.0" which follows the era of "Web 2.0" or "Social Web" with the explosion of social networks. The Internet of things is a universal term used to designate connected objects with various uses, in all areas of the real world: automotive, health, home automation, telephony, etc. "A modern car has 100 million lines of computer code: from ABS, to GPS, to electric seats." "Even the speed at which one drives, includes data," explains the managing director. "We ensure the control and transfer of this data securely."
Handling security issues
Around the initial core of architects from Intel and the Tizen project (OS of Samsung TVs), highly recognized in the world open-source community, a team with varied profiles from different sectors (IT, automotive, maritime, robotics, etc.) and different countries (6 nationalities represented) was formed at the Lorient site. The SME therefore responded to the national call of the great Cyber challenge in 2019: it has just received an award alongside two other Breton companies.
Since the cyber-attacks against hospitals, a budget of one billion euros allocated to strengthen the cybersecurity of sensitive systems will benefit the company that already has a strong wind in its sails.
