Labeled "Terre de Jeux 2024" last November, Saint-Nazaire has just been chosen to be a preparation center for the Games in order to welcome international delegations who would like to carry out training and selection courses.
Saint-Nazaire is in the race
Paris will host the Summer Olympics from 26 July to 11 August 2024. The organizing committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 has just announced the 619 sites selected to be preparation centers for the Games. The city of Saint-Nazaire is included in this list and will therefore be able to welcome athletes and their staff during their preparation period for the games between 2021 and the summer of 2024. Good news for Saint-Nazaire whose high-quality welcome is recognized. It will therefore be able to become training camp for international delegations for nine disciplines including two Paralympics.
Nine disciplines selected including two Paralympics
Saint-Nazaire will host English boxing athletes (Porcé gymnasium), road cycling and Paralympic road cycling (physical preparation at the Pré-Hembert Stadium), football (Léo Lagrange Stadium), handball (Henri Fogel gymnasium), rugby 7 (Pré-Hembert Stadium), triathlon and Paralympic triathlon (Sports Ground including Aquaparc) and volleyball (Coubertin gymnasium and Saucer). The city is in close contact with local clubs to carry out these projects.
New achievements for all
Many investments will facilitate compliant arrangements for the reception of delegations. Renovation works, renewal of sports equipment and improving accessibility of sites for people with disabilities are engaged: construction of a physical preparation room and renovation of the synthetic rugby field (Pré-Hembert stadium), complete renovation of the track (Léo Lagrange Stadium). In addition, the renovations will also benefit sports, school and student associations.
In the Loire-Atlantique region, the cities of La Baule, Carquefou, Pornic, Vallet and Nantes are also labelled.
