Awarded in 2018 by the Great Place To Work label where it was ranked 16th, Legallais the company specialized in hardware and tools has the well-being of its employees coded in its DNA. A source of pride for its 971 employees and its director Philippe Nantermoz, as well as for the city of Caen.
An exemplary development
Created in the city of Caen in 1889, the neighborhood hardware shop began a strategic shift toward professionals in 1985 after filing bankruptcy. With 10% growth each year, the country's leader is now beaming: 173 hires in 2018 and 150 in 2019, an average age of 40 years old for employees who have an average seniority of 10 years... with more than 50,000 references in its catalogue, a logistics center of 24,000 m2 (258,334 sq. ft.) and 23 points of sale in France, it registered 280 million in turnover in 2019. Managing director Philippe Nantermoz has been rewarded for his talent in reconciling business development and social and environmental responsibility.
Living well together
Caring management which engages in dialogue, the onboarding of each employee who joins the group and an attention to training allow the employees to engage in the excellence of the company. The fight against discrimination, health and retirement benefits reinforce the feeling of belonging to a family business where personal interests are taken into account through incentive compensation and profit-sharing. The sport is part of the game with sophrology sessions, coaches, and massages free of charge. Culture is also part of the mix with mini-conferences and thematic workshops to share one's passions. In short, working at Legallais is not just a job but a sharing of values. A corporate culture that commands respect.
Corporate Citizenship and solidarity
The Legallais Foundation puts itself at the service of associations, NGOs, work camps and territorial bodies. 1% of the turnover generated by the sale of its products is used to finance the company's community-development activities. Access to housing, employability and educational assistance are the main areas of its solidarity-based action. For 9 years Legallais has supported more than 180 associations in France and abroad to which it has donated more than €800,000. Discontinued products are sold at discount shops to reinforce the endowment. Its commitment has been rewarded several times: Corporate Philanthropy Award (2010-2013), Oscar New Philanthropist Award (2012), Corporate Responsibility Award (2015) and Sustainable Development Award (2018).
Agility as a sustainable performance tool
Everyone must feel responsible and be able to respond to their clients. Agility enables the sustainable performance of a company: fighting corruption in partnership with suppliers, environmental ambition ranging from biodiversity preservation to responsible waste management. Field competence is promoted through accountability and trust. And boom, another reward with The Merchant of the year 2018 prize awarded by the Trade trophies jury.
Legallais really deserves its Great Place to Work label, awarded following a rigorous audit. This bold enterprise with strong values is inspiring.
