The Stade Malherbe Caen launches its women's section in the autumn of 2019

So that girls can dream of, enjoy and make a living from football while
building the women's football of tomorrow!
Like Norway's Ada Hegerberg who plays for OL (l’Olympique Lyonnais), the first player in
history to win a Ballon d’or in 2018, or Laure
Boulleau who plays for PSG (Paris Saint Germain), football is popular with young girls and
can garner an even wider public.

With Angers, Nîmes and Rennes, Stade Malherbe was one of the
last Ligue 1 clubs not to have a women's section.
The announcement was made on December 6th by the President of the Stade Malherbe
Gilles Sergent and Nicolas Seube, member of the steering committee.

A creation not a fusion

This decision promotes the growth of French women's football, currently the
best European championship and allows the national team to
hold high ambitions. The "Red and Blue" players will start from the bottom of
the hierarchy since it will be a creation and not a merger
with another formation of the region such as AG Caen (whose girls
play this season in R1 after having played the D2). This creation
from scratch reflects the values of this popular and formative club
specialized in elite sport and strengthens its identity
and its autonomy.

Having a team in the second division

In the coming months, trials will be
organized and selections will begin. The idea is not to loot
other clubs in the region. The goal is to start in D2
then move to D1 if the means, the infrastructures and the years of
training follow. The young girs, who are currently forced to go
to Brittany, will be able to become professional football players
without leaving the region. A club that also opens up prospects for
women leaders or referees.

A structured project

In September, there will be three teams in the football school, U8,
U10, U12, U18 and a senior team engaged in the R2 championship.
With an educator and a leader per category. The medical staff
will come later. But one thing is certain: Nicolas Seube, leader and
coordinator of the project, will not coach.

The women's’ soccer world cup will take place in France in
Next June-July. With initiatives like those of the SM, the
public will expand and women's football will gain even more significance and
credibility. New players will appear and the clubs will be there to
pick the cream of women's football.
